Guanaco & Friends
Wildlife Conservation Society & CABI, Bolivia 2005.
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) folks in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, at one point expressed concern that their stock of educational materials was looking as bit thin. This prompted me to produce this simple colouring book for local children, showing charismatic local species.
The book was donated to schools in the indigenous communities surrounding Bolivia's Kaa Iya National Park, a conservation bastion of South America's vast Gran Chaco dry forest.
The hero of this particular book is our old friend Guanaco, a relative of the domestic llama and considered Bolivia's most endangered large mammal. Other protagonists include Peccary (a wild pig), Rhea (South America's answer to the ostrich), Parrot, and other species all well known to the local inhabitants.
