This next Author Insight on The Adventures of Polo the Bear is all about the illegal and unregulated fishing that goes on in the Pacific Ocean, and many other parts of the world. The sequence I included in my book targets the Chinese tuna long liners, considered particularly damaging partly because they allegedly fish indiscriminately, thus killing huge quantities of non-target fish and even marine mammals and endangered species. From his cage in the hold Polo sees it all, and it only serves to fuel his indignance and growing concern regarding the way humans treat the planet.
