Education & Communication

WE BELIEVE

That communicating and teaching are most effective when using media that resonate with people of different ages and backgrounds at an emotional level.

Conservation communicators often need to reach audiences that are far outside academic and professional circles. Teachers and home-schooling parents know that learning is more effective when it engages the creative right side of the brain as well as the logical left side.

Engage Your Audience

Whoever you work with, a great way to strongly engage your audience is to tap into their sense of fun using humour and storytelling: that’s what we’re all about, and it’s why you need cartoons and comics!

Check out the services below to see what’s best for you and get in touch to ask any questions!

CARTOONS for HIRE

If you work in conservation or environmental education and want to communicate with a punch to get to non-technical audiences, you might consider using cartoons. These can be stand-alone illustrations to liven up communication materials in any format, or bespoke picture books or comics to help you tell the story you need to tell. Check out the Cartoon Portfolio to get a sense of our style and who we’ve worked with.

A. Zimmermann, Chester Zoo, UK

“The cartoons Alan produced for us are well researched, of professional quality, culturally sensitive and with high attention to detail. The project worked to a tight deadline and Alan was able to efficiently and professionally respond to our requirements.”

R. Atkinson, Bioversity International, Peru

Alan is a genius at synthesizing ideas into formats that attract attention and get the message across. Apart from being a great artist, he is professional, rapid, flexible and positive and able to work in English and Spanish without a problem.”

T. Whitten, The World Bank, Mongolia

“Alan managed to capture the audacious malfeasance of illegal loggers in Mongolia without the benefit of ever having been there. Working interactively with him was painless and the final products were wonderful and every bit as good as I’d hoped.”

S. Price, Rare, USA

“Alan handled our changing needs with professionalism, patience, and a smile. He was able to develop great cartoons that are useful, relevant, and descriptive. Navigating multi-cultural and multi-lingual needs, he gave us a wonderful product, for a very reasonable price. If we need images like these again, we’ll definitely contact Alan first.”

M. Rodden, National Zoological Park, USA

“The information is presented in a fun and unique way, but the message clearly gets through to both children and adults. The posters are a very effective educational tool!”

E. Meijaard, IUCN Oil Palm Task Force, Indonesia

“It was fun working with Alan on this cartoon. He got the idea of the satire I had written and we worked together creatively to develop a matching cartoon. I hope the cartoon and satire will help expose the greenwashing by the hydrodam company operating in Sumatra.”

J. Pike, Global Canopy Programme, UK

“We really like what you’ve done with the concepts and think the messages are very clear throughout…We’re all delighted with the end product!”

H.A. Mahmoud, Egerton University, Kenya

“This is really nice and thanks for the good job.”
